Yesterday, was the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington and thousands gathered on the Mall to commemorate it. John Lewis was one of the few to attend both events and the only living speaker at the 1963 March. In response to the recent Supreme Court decision eroding voting rights in various states, Congressman Lewis said: “The vote is precious. It is almost sacred. It’s the most powerful non-violent tool we have in a democratic society and we’ve got to use it.”
